The Cat Came Back
"The Cat Came Back" seemed to be a fitting title for this. I named it after I made it. I decided to color this sketch of the day with basic primary colors to see what I could come up with. I wanted to break from the current color trends of the more popular digital art works. The is my tribute to the century-old folk song, “The Cat Came Back“.
After I finished this sketch, it reminded me of the cat from the children’s song “The Cat Came Back”. There was also an animated short created by Canadian director Cordell Barker back in 1988. You can watch it on the National Films Board of Canada’s (NFB) website.
The story is basically about a man desperately trying to get rid of a very destructive yellow cat. But every time he does, the cat always returns… with a vengeance.
Here are a couple verse examples of the lyrics from one of the many versions of the song:
Old Mr. Johnson had problems of his own.
He had a yellow cat that just wouldn’t leave his home.
He tried and he tried to give the cat away.
He gave it to a little man going far far away…
But the cat came back the very next day.
The cat came back. They thought he was a goner
But the cat came back. He just wouldn’t stay away.
The man around the corner swore he’d kill the cat on sight,
He loaded up his shotgun with nails and dynamite;
He waited and he waited for the cat to come around,
Ninety seven pieces of the man is all they found.
But the cat came back the very next day… ect.
That’s good stuff. 😀
